Geraldine "Freda" LeBlanc
Geraldine "Freda"
(Winters) LeBlanc, 91, a retired
owner of the Holden Rest Home,
where she worked for 20 years, died Tuesday, August 07, 2001 at Melrose Nursing
and Rehab Center in Melrose. Geraldine
was born in Norton, and moved to Everett at an early age.
She was educated in the Everett School Systems.
After High School, she went to work at the Naval Yard in Charlestown,
assisting in the home front war effort in WWII.
There she was involved in the production of ropes.
Following the war, she worked for a short time at Revere Knitting Mills,
before going to work at the Holden Rest Home.
Starting as an employee, she eventually purchased the business in 1954.
She ran the rest home until 1967, when she sold it so she could dedicate
her time to raising her family.
She was
a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Malden. She was involved with the church and assisted in
various functions. In 1990, at the
age of 80, she transferred to the Green Street Baptist Church in Melrose, and
remained a dedicated member there as well.
She also attended a local knitting club at the Milano Senoir Center.
Other hobbies included crocheting and reading.
Freda lived in Melrose,
Massachusetts for the past 13 years and was previously had lived in Malden for
50 years.
She
is survived by son Ernest LeBlanc of Malden, daughter Rosalie J. D'Agostino
of Melrose, sister Edith Morse of Melrose, her grandchildren
Debbie, Billy, Russell, Steven, Brian, and Sandy, and also 10 great
grandchildren.
She was
preceded in death by her husband Ernest, her father Angus Winters, and her
mother Evalina Bretten, and several brothers and sisters.
She
was born October 05, 1909 in Norton, Massachusetts the daughter of Angus and
Evalina (Bretten) Winters.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 10, 2001 at
8:00 P.M. at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home. Pastor Larry Starr of Green
Street Baptist Church will be officiating Visitation will be held at Weir
MacCuish Funeral Home. 144 Salem Street, Malden
on Friday from 6-8 PM .
