Joseph John
Lima, Sr.
Joseph J. Lima, Sr. of Malden died Friday, July 6, 2007 in
Malden, he was 89. Born on July 8, 1917 in Hudson, MA, he was
the son of the late John and Ruth (Caio) Lima. Joe was born and
raised in Hudson. He worked as a crane operator for the B&M
Railroad for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1979. In 1969, Joe
and his wife Mary T. (Grace) moved from Somerville to Malden
where they settled. They became part of St. Joseph’s Parish and
Joe was very active within the church. Joe and Mary spent many
years in marriage together, raising and caring for their family,
until Mary’s passing in 1998. Joe was a member of the Men’s
Club and could be seen regularly serving Mass.
Joseph is survived by his children, Joseph J. Lima, Jr. of North
Sutton, NH, Marianne B. Giakoumis of Hillsborough, NH, Edward T.
Lima of Malden, Thomas D. Lima of Acton, and Lorraine C. Poutre
of Hillsborough, NH, and his siblings, Louise Ball of Agawam,
MA and John DeLima of Somerville and his 16 grandchildren, 23
great-grandchildren.
In addition to
his wife and parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his
siblings, Marie Menez, Pearl Nardone, Robert DeLima, and Hilda
Murray.
A memorial mass will be held in St. Joseph’s Church, 770 Salem
Street, Malden, MA on Thursday, July 12, 2007 at 9 AM. Burial
will immediately follow in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe’s memory may be made to
the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal
Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
