Dorothy Estelle MacGahie

 

Dorothy E. (Brown)  MacGahie, 91, a retired registered  nurse and foster mother, died Thursday evening , June 14, 2001 at the  Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford, MA.    Mrs. MacGahie had lived in Malden for over 70 years.  She was born in Malden and educated in Lowell. After completing her education she enrolled in St. Joseph's Nursing School in Lowell, graduating with the Class of 1931. After completing school there she received her Certificate as a Registered Nurse and performed private nursing duties. She later became a foster mother caring for handicapped children with different childcare agencies in the Boston area for 15 years. She loved working and taking walks with the children. Mrs. MacGahie was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Malden for over fifty years.

She is survived by her daughter Pauline L. Lucia  of Melrose, MA, and  several  grandchildren and  several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband,  William J. MacGahie, her son, William F. MacGahie, her father, Walter E. Brown and her mother Isabella (Phillips) Brown, her brothers, Harold Brown, Herbert Brown, Walter Brown, her sisters, Alice Flynn, and Hildegrad Page.

She was born November 24, 1909 in Malden, MA the daughter of the late Walter and Isabella (Phillips) Brown.     

Visitation will be held at  theWeir MacCuish Funeral Home on Sunday June 17th. from 4-8 PM

In lieu of flowers contributions in Mrs. Mac Gahie memory maybe made to the Glen Ridge Residence Council, 120 Murray Rd.  Medford, MA  02155

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 18, 2001 at 9A.M. at the Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden, MA The  Rev. J.C. Woods of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and Rev. Roger W. Wootton will be co-officiating.  Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
