Marilyn Jean Mahoney

Marilyn J. Mahoney, 59, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at the Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston after a long illness. Born in Malden on January 9, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Bertha (Wilson) Hynes.  Marilyn attended Malden High School before starting her own business as a private hospice caregiver.  Marilyn had a courageous battle with cancer; she even was the recipient and survivor of a liver transplant in 2003.   Her illness didn’t stop her from the things she enjoyed most in her life such as the beaches of Maine and the outdoors.  Marilyn was a life-long resident of Malden.

She is survived by her daughter, Denise Brown of Fredericksburg, VA, her son, Joseph Mahoney and his wife, Kathy, of Seattle, WA, her sister, Patricia McNamara of Brockton, her brother, Edward Hynes of Saugus, her grandchildren, Daniel and Christina Brown, both of VA and Mason and Quinn Mahoney, both of WA, her great-grandson, Dylan Lesznar of VA, her long-time friend and roommate, Randy Williams of Malden, her aunt, Lucy Lawlor of Malden, and her cousin, James Lawlor of Malden, as well as many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elizabeth Lowe and Margaret Ritson.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at the First Lutheran Church, 62 Church St. Malden at 10 AM.  Angela Freeman, Pastor of the First Lutheran Church will be officiating. Cremation took place at Woodlawn Crematory, Everett. Burial will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marilyn’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 20 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701-9376.  Arrangements by the Weir ~MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden.
