William Joseph Manning

William J. Manning of Malden died Monday, April 24, 2006 at the Lawrence
Memorial Hospital in Medford, he was 75. Born on August 16, 1930 in Boston,
Bill was the son of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Evans) Manning. He was
educated in Malden Catholic. After high school, he joined the Army to fight for
his country during the Korean War. Bill entered into the service on February
14, 1951 and was honorably discharged on January 28, 1954 as a Private 1st Class. While
still on duty, Bill returned
home and married his sweetheart, Helen M. Gallant on May 18, 1952 in the
Immaculate Conception Church in Malden. The couple spent 53 years in marriage
together, raising and caring for their family. They would have celebrated their
54th wedding anniversary next month. Bill worked as a laborer for
many companies throughout out his career. He worked with Allied Chemical Co. of
Malden as well as the Post Office, Bill even worked for quite a while as a sales
associate for Grossman’s. Bill had been a resident of Malden for over 70
years.
He is
survived by his wife, Helen M. Manning, his children, Stephen J. Manning of
Texas, Patricia Alden of Shelburne, VT, Thomas J. Manning of Malden, and Shawn
P. Manning of Cambridge as well as five grandchildren.
At William’s request, funeral
services will be held privately.
