JOHN PETER “BUCKY”
MATHESON
Matheson, John Peter “BUCKY,”
77, of Malden, entered into rest Friday, May 03, 2002, in Melrose. He was born on May 05, 1924; last Sunday would have been his
78th birthday. Bucky was
a lifelong resident of the Malden/Melrose community.
Like many others of his time, he left school early to enlist in the Army
and help fight in WWII. A
meaningful portion of his time was spent fighting in France with George
Patton’s Third Army.
Bucky was a true sports enthusiast.
After the war he became a professional baseball pitcher for the Hartford
Chiefs, the AAA Minor League Team of the Boston Braves.
He was also a former professional middleweight boxer, with over 20 wins
and one loss to his credit. His
greatest passion was football, and it was fate that his home team finally
prevailed in the last Super-Bowl of his lifetime.
Bucky drove trucks for many years for the Eagle Can Company, and also
joined the Teamsters local #25. From
there he became a founding partner of Malden’s Ace Taxi Company, and drove a
cab there for several years. During
his retirement years he helped care for mentally challenged children by driving
them to school and bringing them happiness with his warm personality.
Bucky’s life touched thousands of others during his time with us.
Bucky
will survive through his proud son, John Peter Matheson, Esq., 27, of Malden.
He was the husband of Ann E. Matheson, and stepfather of John and Scott
E. McGrath, all of Malden. Visitation
will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden, on
Thursday from 6-9 P.M. Funeral
services will be held from the Weir Funeral Home on Friday, May 10th, 2002 at
9:15 A.M., followed by graveside services at Forest Dale Cemetery.
The graveside service will
be at 10 A.M. at Forest Dale Cemetery, Forest Street, Malden.
Bucky’s son and family will hold a reception in his memory following
his burial
