John
May died Sunday, July 9, 2006 at the Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett, he
was 97. Born on March 1, 1909 in Victoria Vale, Nova Scotia, Canada, he
was the son of the late Frederick and Winnefred (Hannon) May. John moved
from Canada to New York, NY when he was only fourteen. He met his
sweetheart, Calastine MacDougall in Somerville, and the couple were married on
December 10, 1942. The couple spent the next 61 years in marriage together
raising their family. John worked as an auto mechanic for many auto body
shops. He decided to enlist into the U.S. Army on October 1, 1942 as an
auto mechanic. John served three years to his country until he was
honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on October 1, 1945. John continued
work as a mechanic after he left the Army, working most of his life for Mirak
Chevrolet and other General Motors dealerships. He was a member of the
Converse Masons of Malden. John lived in Malden the past 60 years.
He is
survived by his wife, Calastine May of Malden, his children, J. Michael and his
wife, Barbara May of West Newbury, Nancy and her husband, Glenn Delaney of
Peabody, his dear nephew, Joey Strum (of the heart) of Malden, as well as five
granddaughters and three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by
his parents and his sisters, Alice Norton and Katherine Daly.
Funeral services will be held in the Weir- MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home 144
Salem St. Malden, MA on Thursday, July 13, 2006 at 10AM Rev. Martha
A. Dominy of the First Baptist Church will be officiating. Burial will
immediately follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
Visitation will be held in the
funeral home on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 from 5 to 9 PM.
