Ruth Lillias McDermod

Ruth Lillias McDermod  80, a  housewife,  died Friday, April 13, 2001 at Elmhurst Nursing Home in Melrose, MA  Mrs. McDermod was born in Somerville and at an early age moved to Malden.  She  had been  a resident of Wakefield for the last 4 years, and was  formerly from  Malden were she lived most of her life.

She was educated in the Malden School system and  after completing school she worked at  the  Larson Tool &  Die Co.  in Malden during WWII.

Ruth was a very devoted homemaker and  a great cook. She  was a loving wife, mother,  grandmother and great-grandmother to all. She loved to do crafts and  would  later give them  as gifts to her loving family.  She was known as a great organizer and was an active supporter of the American Lung Association.

She is survived by her husband Retired Malden Fire Fighter James M. Mc Dermod of Wakefield. Two daughters,  Barbara Jean Sweezey  of Londonderry, NH and  Nancy  L. Bruno of Boca Raton, FL, one son,   Stephen   J. McDermod  of Wakefield, MA,  two sisters,  Esther Orcutt  of  New Market, NH & Audrey Kimpton  of South Easton, MA, She was also survived by six grandchildren,  Joseph  D. Bruno of Natick, MA, Christopher   D. Sweezey  of  Windham, NH, Lauri  A. Casey of  Needham, MA, Michael  J. Sweezey of Lowell, MA, Vicki  M. Bruno of Needham, MA, and Douglas   M. Sweezey  of Wakefield, MA and 7 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her father Carl Potter, and her mother Lillias Durning. 

She was born August 14, 1920 in Somerville, MA the daughter of the late  Carl and Lillias (Durning) Potter.  

Visitation will be held at Weir -MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden,  on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9PM

Contributions in Ruth's memory maybe made to the  American Lung Assoc. of  Middlesex County, 5 Mountain Rd. Burlington, MA  01803.   

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home. Pastor Joseph DeCosta of Maplewood Baptist Church will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
