Michael Mini, Sr.

Joseph M. Mini, Sr., a life-long resident of Malden, died Wednesday,
February 7, 2007 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford,
he was 87. Born on February 7, 1920 in East Boston, he was the
son of the late Andrew and Josephine (Saintangelo) Mini. Joseph
was raised and educated in Malden. He attended the Quincy Trade
School before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He entered into
active military duty on May 13, 1942 at Ft. Devens and was
honorably discharged on November 1, 1945 at Ft. Dix, NJ. By the
time he was discharged from the Army, Joseph had attained the
rank of Staff Sergeant of the Company F 36th
Mechanized Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron. He was also awarded
with the American Service Medal, the European-American-Middle
Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, as well as the
Purple Heart for wounds sustained on July 18, 1944. Joseph was
injured while storming the beaches during the invasion of both
Normandy and Omaha Beach. Joseph married his sweetheart,
Marjorie M. Preston, in 1945. The couple spent over 60 years in
marriage together, raising and caring for their family. In
1946, Joseph went to work for the City of Malden in the Sewer
Department. He retired as the foreman of the department after
33 years of service to the city in 1979. Joseph was an
extremely hard working man and was always dedicated to his job
and his family.
Joseph is survived by hi wife, Marjorie M. Mini of Malden, his
children, Susan Mastroelli of Woburn, Nancy Hannon of Melrose,
and Richard "Ricky" Mini of Malden, his siblings, William J.
Mini of Malden as well as eight grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren. Joseph also leaves several nieces and
nephews.
In addition to
his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his son, Joseph
Mini and his siblings, Marie Gramstorff, Catherine M. and
Domenic J. Mini.

Salem Street, Malden on Monday, February, 12, 2007 at 8 AM
followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s Church,
770 Salem Street Malden at 9 AM. Burial will immediately follow
in the Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
Visitation
will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, February 11, 2007
from 4 to 8 PM.
