Roland Alfred Morel


Roland A. “Rollie” Morel of Malden died Thursday, February 15, 2007 at his home
in Malden after a lengthy illness, he was 80. Born on December 28, 1926 in
Everett, he was the son of the late Harvey and Claire (Deschens) Morel. Roland
was raised and educated in Everett. After high school, he went to trade school
to learn carpentry. On October 13, 1944, Roland was drafted into the U.S. Navy
to help fight for his country during World War II. During his tour of duty,
Roland had earned the World War II Victory Medal, the American Area Medal, and
the Atlantic-Pacific Medal. When he was discharged on July 11, 1946, Roland had
attained the rank of Seaman, 1st Class. Roland married his
sweetheart, Diana M. Filippone on September 3, 1953 in Jamaica Plain. The
couple lived in Everett and began their family. After living in Wakefield for a
short while, Roland built their house in Malden where they have lived for the
past 36 years. Roland started his own business, G & R Construction, Inc., in
1962 and had worked right up until last year. Roland was a life-member of the
Malden V.F.W. Post #639 and had served as Past Commander as well as Judge
advocate. He also belonged to the Malden Elks and the Eastside Club.
Roland is survived by his wife Diana M. Morel of Malden, his children, Denise M.
Brodie of Everett, Dennis P. Morel, and his wife, Diane, of North Reading, and
Debra A. Arbing of Malden, his siblings, Gilbert Morel of Malden, Arthur Morel
of ME, Lucy Butler of Everett, and Paul Morel of Tewksbury, and his
grandchildren, Joanna Morel, Christopher Brodie, Dennis Morel, Jr., Frank Arbing,
Brad Arbing, and Shawn Brodie.
Funeral from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden on
Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at 8 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in
Sacred Hearts Church, 297 Main St. Malden at 9 AM. Fr. William Carol will be
celebrating the Mass. Burial will immediately follow in Forest Dale Cemetery,
Malden.
Visitation will be held in the
funeral home on Monday, February 19, 2007 from 5 to 9 PM.
