Alfred "Jim"
Murphy, 80, a longtime resident of Malden, died
Wednesdqay,
October 3rd, 2007 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose.
Alfred was born and educated in Somerville. After completing his
education, he enlisted in the US Army, serving in the Asian
Pacific Theatre during WWII. He returned to Somerville after
his discharge, and went to work for the First National Store
Warehouse in Somerville. He worked there as a baker for 34
years until its closing in 1977. He then became Chief Steward
in the Local #285 Commonwealth of Massachusetts Dept of Public
Works. He worked there for 11 years until his retirement in
1988. Jim was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, and a
member of the American Legion Post #69 of Malden
He is survived
by his children, Mary E. and husband Arthur C. Pickett of Sharon, and Lawrence J.
Murphy of Malden, and his
granddaughter, Jeannie M. Thibault of Randolph, as well as
three great
grandchildren.
He was
preceded in death by his wife Florence E. (MacKenzie), his
parents, John and Ruth (Reilly) Murphy, his brother Robert Murphy,
his step brother John Murphy, and his step sister, Theresa
Jewett.
Visitation
will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street,
Malden, on Monday, Oct. 8th, from 4 - 8 PM.
Funeral
services will be held from the Weir MacCuish Golden Rule Home,
144 Salem Street, Malden, on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 9:00
A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph's Church at
10AM. . Father Bill Minigan of St. Joseph will be the
celebrant. Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in
Malden.
