Daniel Paul Murphy

 

Daniel Paul Murphy,  79, a  retired supervisor for the Poloriod Company , passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston.  Dan was born and raised in Cambridge, MA, the son of Thomas and Margaret (Carney) Murphy.  Although he would complete his education later, he left high school to enlist in the Army, and served honorably during the Korean Conflict.  He was discharged in 1954 having attained the rank of Corporal.   Soon after his discharge, he married his sweetheart, Helene Pallo.  In 1964, the two settled down in Malden where they raised their family.  Dan worked for the Poloriod company for over 35 years, retiring as a supervisor in 1993.   Dan really enjoyed cooking and also was an avid salt water fisherman, even had his own boat in years past, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife Helene (Pallo) Murphy of Malden,his sons, Thomas A. Murphy of Malden, Daniel P. Murphy  of Saugus, and Michael G. Murphy of Malden, his daughter,  Karen A. Dello Russo of Saugus, his sisters,  Ellen Martin  of Malden, Catherine Barreira  of Medford, Julia Walker of Medford, and Barbara Webb  of Malden, and his brothers, Robert Murphy and  Timothy Murphy of Beverly, as well as six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents,  Thomas and Margaret (Carney) Murphy, his brother Thomas Murphy, and  his sisters Mary Miller, Margaret Warner, and Ann Tivnan.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at  8:00 A.M at the Weir MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden  for a period of visitation before a Mass of Christian Burial at  10:00 A.M. in  Sacred Hearts Church, Malden. . Fr. Daniel J. Hickey of Sacred Hearts Church will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
