James "Larry" Murphy

 

James "Larry" Murphy,  47, died Saturday, January 25, 2003 at New England Medical Center in Boston.  Larry was raised in Malden, attending the Cheverus and Lincoln Schools.  From there he attended the NE Regional Vocational School, and graduated from there with the class of 1973.  After high school, he worked in the auto repair industry for about 10 years until taking employment as an insurance adjuster.  He worked for the Metropolitan Insurance Co until a few years ago, when he accepted an offer from the Hanover Ins Co, where he had worked to until his passing.

He was a past member of the Knights of Colubus #105, and was also a member of the VFW Post 3273.  Larry was also a big history buff, and had a keen interest in the Civil War.  Mr. Murphy lived in Stoneham, Massachusetts for 15 years and was previously from Malden.

He is survived by his daughter, Katelyn A. Murphy of Stoneham, his  parents, James L and  Joan M.(Hanifan) Murphy of Malden, his fiancé, Rosemarie Roderick  of Medford, his sister Carol A. Flanagan  of Malden, his brother Michael J. Murphy  of Malden, and his former wife, Mary (Marifiote) Murphy of Stoneham.

He was preceded in death by his brother Robert D. Murphy.

Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden,  on Tuesday from 4 -8 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial  will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Hearts Church. Fr. Daniel J. Hickey of Sacred Hearts Church will be the Celebrant.  Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.

Donations in Larry's memory may be made to the Katelyn A. Murphy Scholarship Fund, c/o Carol Flanagan, 203 Hawethorne St, Malden, or to the charity of ones choice.
