Arthur
Francis O'Brien, Jr.

Arthur F. O'Brien of Malden died unexpectedly on Friday, January
12, 2007 at his home in Malden, he was 64. Born on May 7, 1942
in Chelsea, he was the son of Arthur F. O’Brien, Sr. and Sarah
(McClintock) O'Brien. Arthur was raised and educated in Malden
and was a graduate of Malden High School. After school, Arthur
worked for various companies doing various jobs. On May 5,
1964, Arthur enlisted into the U.S. Army to help fight for his
country during the Vietnam War. He was awarded many awards
including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam
Service Medal, as well as other prestigious commendations.
Arthur was honorably discharged from active duty on December 13,
1966 at Ft. Dix, NJ. At the time of his discharge, Arthur had
attained the rank of Sergeant. He continued in his service to
our country by joining the U.S. Army Reserve. Arthur was
eventually discharged from the reserves on April 30, 1970. He
was a current member of the Malden V.F.W. Post #639 and was also
an avid sports fan. Arthur was a life-long resident of Malden.
Arthur is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Buckley of Ashland,
Jeanne Craven and her husband, Donald, of Malden, and Barbara
Wood and her husband, Nelson, of Ashland as well as many nieces
and nephews and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to
his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his sister, Mary
Lace.
A graveside memorial service will take place on May 7, 2007 in
the Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden at 10AM. Arrangements by the
Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden,
MA.
In lieu of
flowers, contributions in Arthur’s memory may be made to a
charity of one’s choice.
