 Irene Mary O'Brien

Irene Mary (Payne) O'Brien, 78, died, suddenly, Thursday, February 19, 2004 at her home in Lynn, Massachusetts.  Irene was born and educated in East Boston. When she completed high school she went to work at the Boston Navy Yard during W.W. II as a welder. She then went to work for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a clerk for the probate court in Boston. She was employed there for over twenty years until her retirement in 1972.  Mrs. O'Brien lived in Lynn, MA for the past twenty-five years and was previously from East Boston.

She is survived by her brother, Charles E. Payne of Chelsea, his sister, Norma J.  Knox of Greenfield and several loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert I. O’Brien, her brother Frederick Payne, her sister Catherine DeRota, and her sister Edna M. Jeskey.

She was born August 24, 1925 in East Boston, Massachusetts the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Conneeley) Payne.

Visitation has been omitted.

Funeral from the Weir -Mac Cuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Monday Feb 23rd at 8:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph's Church, 770 Salem Street at 9:00 AM with Rev. William J. Minigan, Pastor of St. Joseph's Church officiating.  Burial will be in the Star of the Sea Cemetery in Marblehead.
