Francis O'Connell Sr.
J ames
Francis O'Connell, 84, a longtime resident of Malden, died
Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Epoch Senior Care of Melrose in
Melrose, Massachusetts. He was born July 26, 1923 in Boston,
Massachusetts the son of late Thomas and Mary (Cashman)
O'Connell James was raised in Dorchester and graduating from
Dorchester H. S. with the class of 1941. He enlisted in the
army out of high school to help the country fight in WWII.
After the war, he returned to Dorchester. He soon met his
future wife, while working with her sister. He courted her
while she lived in Wakefield, and the two were soon married on
Oct. 19, 1958. They lived in Mattapan for a short time before
settling down in Malden to raise their family over 40 years
ago. James and Rosemarie shared many years together until her
passing in 1998.
James was a
Vocational Instructor at the Metropolitan State Hospital in
Waltham. James retired in 1982. James was a member of the
Immaculate Conception Church in Malden. He was also a past
member of the Stoneham Elks. He was an avid reader, especially
fond of Sherlock Holmes mysteries. In addition, James was a big
fan of Elvis.
He is survived
his daughter Patricia A. Ramon of Haverhill, his son, James F. and wife Paige V. O'Connell of Haverhill, and his granddaughter,
Amanda L. Ramon, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was
preceded in death by his wife Rosemarie (Lawrence), and his
parents, Thomas, and Mary (Cashman) O'Connell
Funeral services will
be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem
St. Malden, on Friday, Sept 14th, at 10AM. Interment
to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden
Visitation
will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept
13th, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM
