Kathleen Roberta Ohlson

 

     Kathleen R. (Martello) Ohlson of Stoneham, formerly of Medford and Malden, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in the Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford, she was 74.  Born in East Boston on July 11, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary L. (Guiliano) Martello. At an early age, Kathleen and her family moved to Medford.  She was educated in the school system and was a graduate of Medford High School with the Class of 1952.  In 1957, Kathleen married James H. Ohlson and the couple remained in Medford to raise their four children.  Kathleen loved cooking and cleaning and was always taking care of her family and grandchildren. She loved shopping and was a totally devoted to her entire family.  Kathleen had been a resident of Stoneham for the past ten years but was previously a resident of Malden for 27 years and prior to that, a resident of Medford for 21 years.

     Kathleen is survived by her children, Kim J. O'Brien and her husband, Dan of Stoneham, Thomas J. Ohlson of Medford, and Eric S. Ohlson of Malden, her siblings, Marilyn Todd of Attleboro, Thomas Martello of Medford, and Sandra Sannizarro of Florida, as well as nine grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband James H. Ohlson, her son, James P. Ohlson, and her brother, Frank Martello.

     Funeral will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford at 10 AM.  Fr. Joseph R. Foster, Pastor of St. Francis will be presiding.  Burial will follow in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.

Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Friday, July 17, 2009 from 4 to 9 PM. 

     Contributions in Kathleen’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, MA Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472 or the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
