Kenneth
Ernest Olson, 90, a retired maintenance supervisor for Anderson
Power, where he worked for years, died Thursday, September 23,
2010 at the Blaire House in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Mr.
Olson was a lifelong resident of Malden.
Ken was born
in Medford, Ma, the son of Iver and Priscilla (Carlson) Olson.
During his school years, he moved to Malden with his family
where he completed his education and graduated from Malden High
School. He then attended Northeastern University for a couple
of years. He worked as a truck driver for Y.D. Tonic for a short
time following high school. In 1942, He enlisted in the US
Army to help our countries fight in WWII. He was part of the
D-Day invasion that landed on Utah Beach. During his service
time, he saw action in France, Germany, and Central Europe. He
was decorated with five bronze stars and one bronze arrow while
on active duty. Upon his discharge in 1945, he returned to
Malden. Ken enjoyed playing baseball and he became active in the
Malden "City League", playing for many years. He even continued
on as Manager of the Clan McNeil Society Baseball team for 4
years after his playing time ended. Ken worked for Anderson
Power in Brighton for many years, and retired as the Maintenance
Supervisor.
Ken was a
member of the East Side A A club, as well as the Malden VFW
Post 639 in Malden. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Wist
and Bridge, often at the clubs where he was a member but also
with family members. He was always very proud of his military
service and enjoyed telling stories of his service time to the
younger generations.
He is survived
by his children, Donna L. Porter of NY, , Linda S. Swanson of
Middleboro, MA, Julie L. Rundlett of Framingham, John Olson
of Billerica, Kenneth Olson of Danvers, and Anne M. Hanmore
of MI, his brother, Earl W. Olson of Malden, as well as 17
grandchildren and 15 great grand children. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Iver and Priscilla (Carlson) Olson, his
brother Warren Olson; his sister Mildred Gustafson
Funeral
services will be held Saturday, Oct 2, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the
Weir Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden, with visitation
held for one hour prior. Burial will follow in the Veterans
Section of Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
