J. Barbara
Perkins
J. Barbara Perkins of Pocasset, formerly of Malden, died
Thursday, July 26, 2007 at the Royal Nursing Home in Falmouth,
MA, at the age of 90. Born on December 4, 1916 in Everett, she
was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Saxon) Savage.
Barbara was raised and educated in Malden and was a graduate of
Malden High School with the Class of 1933. Shortly after she
graduated, Barbara went to work for the John Hancock Mutual Life
Insurance Co. in Boston as a clerk. While working at John
Hancock, Barbara met her sweetheart, Charles S. Perkins, who was
a lawyer for the insurance company. They were married in
Medford shortly after he returned from World War II, on March 4,
1946, and Charles and Barbara settled in Malden to begin their
family. Charles and Barbara spent over 53 years in marriage
together raising and caring for their family until Charles’
passing in December of 1999. Barbara was a long-time member of
the First Church in Malden, Congregational, as well as a member
of Circle Y, a choir member, and a Sunday school teacher for the
parish. At one time, she was a Brownie leader at the Glenwood
School. She was also a devoted member of the Book Club at
Malden Public Library, run by Dr. Bowman. She and Charles also
loved to travel--particularly to Britain. Charles and Barbara
had lived in Malden for over 40 years until they retired to
Pocasset in Cape Cod in 1999.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Jean and her husband, John
Campbell of Monument Beach, MA and Joyce and her husband, Paul
Kenneally of North Falmouth, MA, her grandchildren, Matthew
Campbell and his wife, Kathleen of Malden and Alison and her
husband, Gerry Spagnuolo of Wakefield, her great-grandchildren,
Daniella J. and Anthony G. Spagnuolo. Barbara is also survived
by her cousin Marguerite Bell of Stoneham as well as many nieces
and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Barbara was preceded in
death by her siblings, Madeleine Letourneau, Kathy Grassia,
Eunice Wood, and Edmund Savage.
Visitation
will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144
Salem Street, Malden on Monday, July 30, 2007 from 4 to 8 PM.
A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday,
July 31, 2007 at 10 AM. Rev. Randall P. Ferrara of the First
Church in Malden, Congregational will be officiating. Burial
will immediately follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
