Michael Edward Picillo
Michael Edward Picillo, 86, a dispatcher for XTRA
Corporation with the
Boston & Maine Railroad, where he worked for
20 years, died Sunday, January 20, 2002 at Beverly Hospital in Beverly,
MA after a long illness. Mr. Picillo lived in Danvers, MA for last 31 years
and was previously from Malden and E.
Boston.
Mr. Picillo was born and educated in East Boston.
Mike entered the US Army on
Nov. 18, 1943 and served
with 1st. Battalion Co B
28th. Infantry Division serving in the European Theater with the Military
Police. He was discharged on
Oct.18, 1945 at the rank of Sergeant.
He worked for XTRA Corp. of the Boston & Maine Railroad for 24 years and
retired in 1976. Mike, and his lifelong friend Al Rocci were ushers with the
Boston Braves and the Boston Red Sox from 1942-1970; they also ushered for the
first Boston Patriots Team. Ushering behind the Red Sox dugout, Mike was an
avid sports fan who loved the Red Sox and spent fifty years of his
vacations going to spring training. Mike
was a longtime member and bartender with the Medford & Malden Moose where he
organized fundraisers for the Jimmy Fund with his friends on the Red Sox ball
teams through the years. From
1977-1985 he worked at the former Henry's Restaurant and for the Henry Dorazio's
Catering in Malden.
He is survived by his devoted daughters, Sandra J. Miller
and her husband Paul of Danvers, Marguerite A. Gonsalves of Melrose and her
loving companion Ralph Scibelli, and Pamela
J. Hirtle of Melrose and her loving
companion Peter Levine, his devoted sister Catherine Castagna of
Revere, his granddaughters, Melissa Miller of Danvers,
Angela &
Nicole Hirtle of Melrose, his grandson Michael Miller of
Danvers and his great-granddaughter
Jayden Lapointe. Godfather of Charlene Petrilli of Malden and Francis
O'Brien of N.J. Mr. Picillo is
survived by many loving in-laws, Doris & Dom DiGiammarino and Catherine
Cerrone all of Wakefield and Ralph Muollo of Everett, cousins,
nieces, nephews and his life
long friends Al and
Josephine Rocci of Medford.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carmela (Lumia), his
father Achilles Picillo, his mother Saveria (DiDonato), his sister Mildred
Lumia, and his brother Henry Picillo and his son in-law Henry Gonsalves.
He was born February 27, 1916 in East Boston, and was the
son of late Achilles and Saveria (DiDonato)
Picillo.
Visitation will be held at the Weir- MacCuish Funeral Home,
144 Salem St. Malden, on Tuesday, from
and 2-8 PM.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St.
Richard's Church, Forest St., Danvers, on Wednesday, Jan. 23rd.
at 10AM.
Pastor Bruce G. Flannagan of St. Richard's Church
will be the celebrate.
Burial will be in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
