Doris Mae (Mann) Porter


Doris Mae (Mann) Porter, a resident of Palmyra, ME, formerly of Saugus and Malden, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 in Malden after a brief illness.  Mrs. Porter was born in Stoneham, the daughter of Clyde O. and Alverta A. (Wile) Mann, and attended schools in Malden, graduating from Malden High School with the Class of 1955.  She also attended Bentley College and Andover Newton Theological School.  During her career, Mrs. Porter worked as a personnel director for Market Forge in Everett, a purchasing agent for La Touraine Coffee, and a field representative for the IUE.  Over the years, she also started two businesses to market her handmade dolls.

Mrs. Porter was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Malden, having served on the Diaconate, chaired the Board of Christian Education and Music Committee, taught Sunday school, formed and directed two children's choirs, assisted with a youth handbell choir, sang in the Sanctuary Choir and played in an adult handbell choir, led the women's Group "Q".  She also served a three-year-term as President of the American Baptist Women's Ministries of Massachusetts.

Mrs. Porter enjoyed music, oil painting, sewing, crocheting and crafts of all kinds.

Survivors include her sons William S. Frye and his wife Susan, of Jonesport, ME, and Robert J. Frye and his wife Cheryl of Revere; her sister Shirley M. Mudge of Malden and brother Roger C. Mann of Chelmsford; her grandchildren James Frye of Jonesport, ME; Franklin Perry of Saugus; Jason, David and Kevin Frye of Revere; a special niece and nephew, Ruth and Charles Schramm of Chelmsford; as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition, Doris is survived by her lifelong friends Trudy Sadeghpour of Lexington and Ann Sullivan of New Vineyard, ME; and her closest friend and recent primary care giver, the Rev. Martha Dominy of Malden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Kari Ann Frye, and her sister Lorraine A. Mann.

Visitation will be held at the Weir MacCuish Golden Rule  Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden,  on Thursday, July 15 from 4-8 PM

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 16, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church, corner of Main and Salem Streets in Malden.  Rev. Martha A. Dominy, Pastor of First Baptist will be officiating.  A collation will be held at the church following the service, and a procession to Pine Ridge Cemetery in Chelmsford will leave the church at 1:15 p.m. for committal service at 2:00 p.m.
