Clara Elizabeth Ratti

     Clara E. “Betty” Ratti of Malden died Thursday, June 8, 2006 at the Wingate at Reading Nursing Home in Reading, MA, she was 82.  Born on May 24, 1924 in Everett, Betty was the daughter of the late Gordon and Mary C. (Johnston) Ross, Sr.  She was educated in the Everett school system.  Betty entered into the U.S. Army on her birthday, May 24, 1944, in Boston.  She saw active military duty on June 12, 1944 and served until she was honorably discharged on March 2, 1946, having attained the rank of Private 1st Class.  Betty received the American Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal during her service time.  Upon returning home, she married her sweetheart, Paul V. Ratti, on June 8, 1946 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Everett.  The couple spent over 46 years in marriage together, raising their family until Paul’s passing on January 9, 1993.  She was an avid reader and loved painting ceramics but her real passion was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.  Mrs. Ratti lived in Malden the past 46 years and was previously from Everett.  Betty was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Malden.

     She was the devoted mother of Paula R. Rowe of Malden, Donald C. Ratti and his wife, Denise M. of Woburn, and Kathleen A. and her husband Alan W. Ulrich of Reading, the loving sister of  Ruth A. Quinton of Malden, the cherished grandmother of Dr. Eric A. Rowe, Melissa A. Cauger, Steven T. Ratti, Kristal M. Ratti, Kaitlin E. Ulrich, and Sarah R. Ulrich, and her great-grandson, Michael A. Cauger, and the adored aunt of several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Alfred Ross, Gordon C. Ross Jr., Eleanor Cook, Ethel Fisher, Margaret Thibeault, and Dot Freelove.

     Funeral from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden on Monday, June 12, 2006 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph’s Church, 770 Salem St. Malden at 10 AM.  Fr. William B. Minigan, Pastor of St. Joseph’s Church will be the celebrant.  Burial will immediately follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, June 11, 2006 from 4 to 8 PM.
