Barbara
Shirley Rieth
Barbara S. (Snyder) Rieth, died Tuesday evening, January 22,
2008 at Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood she was 82. Barbara
was born on March 4, 1925, the daughter of the late Russell &
Margaret (Wilson) Snyder. Barbara had been a resident at the
Victoria Haven Nursing Facility in Norwood for a few years.
Mrs. Rieth was educated in the Malden schools and was a graduate
of Malden High Class of 1943. After high school Barbara worked
as a secretary for the Stickney & Poor Spice Company of Boston
for six years. She would later meet and marry her sweet heart,
Stanwood P. Rieth. The couple married in 1947, at the
former Congregational Church on Salem St., in Malden and settled
in Danvers and raised their children. The family later moved
back to Malden and in November of 1980, Stanwood passed away.
The family would remain in Malden until 1985. Barbara moved to
Haverhill and worked as a pharmacist assistant for the Whittier
Rehabilitation Hospital, in Haverhill for the next ten years
until her retirement in 1997.
Barbara was
known as a loving and caring mother that loved to cook. She
spent her spare time reading a good novel, knitting, crocheting
and painting.
She is survived by her daughter’s, Paula M. Conley of
Harpswell, ME, Susan A. Custer of Ann Arbor, MI, her son’s,
Russell W. Rieth of Apple Valley, MN and Matthew W. Rieth
of Mansfield, her sister’s Carole Donahue of Penfield, NY and
Janice Chamness of Winthrop, her cherished nine
grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
At Barbara’s request visiting hours have been omitted. In lieu
of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to the
Alzheimer's Association, MA Chapter, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown,
MA 02472.
Funeral services will be held in the Weir-Mac Cuish Golden
Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden, on Monday, January
28, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. The Rev. Ruth R. Oduor of Good Shepherd
United Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial will be in
the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
