Phyllis W. Saunders
Phyllis Weir (Pierce) Saunders, 81, died Monday,
July 1, 2002 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose after a lengthy
illness. She was born November 16,
1920 in Middleboro, MA and was the
daughter of the late Leon R. and
Nina W. (Gallond) Pierce.
Phyllis was educated in the Melrose school system and was a
graduate of the class of 1937. She
worked as a waitress at the Durgin Park restaurant in Boston for 5 years and at the Kernwood Café
in Malden for many years. In
her later years, she volunteered at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital in Melrose
for eight years and was awarded the Volunteer of the Month in the 1990's. She was also a member of the 557 Club in the complex
where she lived. Mrs. Saunders had
lived in Malden for 64 years and was formerly from Melrose.
She is survived by her brothers Leon R. Pierce of FL,
Raymond J. Pierce of Boston, Robert W. Pierce
of Cotuit, and her nieces Mariska and
Heather Pierce of Waltham,
as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Warren Saunders,
her parents Leon R. & Nina W. (Gallond)
Pierce, and her brother Paul H.
Pierce.
Visitation will be held at the Weir-MacCuish
Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Friday from 5-8 PM.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated
in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St., Malden, on Sat.
July 6th. at 9AM. Father
Richard J. Mehm Pastor of Immaculate Conception Church will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
