Salvatore  "Sam"  Sciuto

Salvatore “Sam” Sciuto, died Tuesday morning, December 11, 2007 at his home in Malden, he was 97.  Born on August 28, 1910, he was the son of the late Giusseppe & Maria (Tomarchio) Sciuto.  Sam was born in Lawrence, he then eventually moved with his family to the West End.   Being the oldest of four, at the age of fourteen, he had to go to work to help provide for his mother and younger siblings after the death of his father.   Due to a physical problem, he was not accepted into the military, so he went to work as a welder at the Navy yard.  In his mid twenties, Sam was introduced, through his sister, to the woman who would become  his life partner.  Angie Barrasso and Sam were married on October 16, 1938 in St. Leonard’s Church on Prince St. in the North End.  The couple had two children and shared the next 65 years together until Angie passed away in December 2003.  At the age of 97, four years and one week later, Sam and Angie were united again.

Sam worked many years as a carpet binder and installer for the Coleman – Levin Carpet Company in Chelsea, until his retirement in 1975.  Sam loved to take walks, and visit his  local store to pick his lottery  numbers. He was always the handy man around the house, performing carpentry and landscaping chores, as well as  any type of repairs needed.  His handy work and talent was often called upon at other homes, something he was always glad to do. He was known as a jack of all trades. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.  He enjoyed the company of his loving wife and his loving and caring family.   Sam had lived in Malden for last fifty-nine years.

He is survived by his daughter, Valerie Sciuto of  Malden, his son, Joseph R. Sciuto and his wife, Mary  Anne of Billerica, his grandsons, Michael Sciuto of Nevada and  Christopher Sciuto of Somerville, his great-grandson Zachary Sciuto, his sister,  Mary Rauzino of Dedham and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Angelina (Barrasso) Sciuto, his brothers,   Sebastian “Ned" Sciuto and Joseph Sciuto.

Friends and relatives are invited to visiting hours at the funeral home, on Thursday, December 13, 2007 from 4 to 8 PM.
