Evelyn June Smith

 

Evelyn J. Smith, died suddenly Monday morning, May 16, 2005, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford.  Evelyn was born in the Dorchester section of Boston and was raised in Malden. She was a Malden High graduate with the Class of 1939. In 1944, Evelyn married her husband, Richard F. Dame, in St. Paul’s Episcopal Parish and the couple would settle in Malden and raise their two children. Evelyn worked at her husbands repair shop, Maplewood Motors, as the bookkeeper until the business was sold.  The family moved to the west coast for a few years and when they returned, her husband opened Maplewood Square Motors, an auto repair and  used car dealer, where Evelyn worked as the bookkeeper. Evelyn later was employed at the Malden Trust Company, as a bank teller for many years. After her retirement, she continued to work in the banking industry with the Bank of America’s office for a few years in Malden up until her passing. She was life long member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Parish, St. Anne’s Guild Charter Member, Eastern Star and the Red Hat Ladies of Malden.

She is survived by her son, Stephen R. Dame of Newburyport, her brother Carl & Robert Benson both of Malden, her grandchildren, Brandon Giles, Kate Richards, Devon Dame and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Smith and her first husband, Richard  F. Dame, her daughter, Susan E. Giles, her parents, Carl Benson and  Ida M. (Prescott), and her sisters, Ida Palmer and Helen Davidson.

Contributions in Evelyn’s memory maybe made to the Monsignor Neagle’s Apartment Residence Association, 350 Charles St., Malden, MA 02148

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St. Malden, on Thursday, May 19th from 4-8PM.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Paul’s Episcopal Parish, 26 Washington St. Malden on Friday May 20th at 10AM. Burial will follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
