Anna Maria Sparrow

     Anna M. (Torres) Sparrow died on December 26, 2005 at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading, she was 53.  Born in Melrose on February 16, 1952, she was the daughter of Ruth (Smith) Torres, Sr. and the late Angel Torres, Sr.  Anna was raised in Malden and went to Malden High School, graduating with the Class of 1970.  On July 1, 1971, she married her sweetheart, Loney R. Sparrow, Jr. in Lynnfield, MA.  The couple spent over 30 years of marriage together.  Anna went on to attend and graduate from Boston University's Certificate Program for Information Technology.  She worked for John Hancock Insurance in Boston for over 30 years until her retirement in 2005.  Anna loved sewing and indoor gardening.  She also loved water and snow skiing as well as swimming and sailing.  Anna was a life-long resident of Malden and was a communicant and active member of the First Baptist Church in Chelsea.   

     She is survived by her husband, Loney R. Sparrow, Jr. of Malden, her son, Kip A. Sparrow of Malden, her mother Ruth Torres, Sr. of Malden, her sisters Ruth Dent of Malden and Adelina Torres of Melrose, and her aunt, Ocie Smith of Malden as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Angel Torres, Sr., her sister, Candida Torres and her brother, Angel Torres, Jr.

     Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church 185 Shurtliff St. Chelsea, MA on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 from 11 to 2 and 3 to7 PM.  A funeral service will immediately follow at the church at 7 PM. David Aponte, Pastor of the First Baptist Church will be officiating the services. 

     Family and friends are invited to meet at the First Baptist Church on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at 9 AM to follow in procession to Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett for a committal service at 10 AM.  

     In lieu of flowers, contributions in Anna’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Chelsea Restoration Fund, 185 Shurtliff St. Chelsea, MA. Arrangements by the Weir~MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden.
