Rafael Santos Torres

     Rafael S. Torres of Moreno Valley, CA, formerly of Chelsea, died Monday, August 6, 2007 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, he was 64.  Born in Arroyo, Puerto Rico on October 19, 1942, Rafael was the son of Carmen (Torres) and the late Juan Santos.  Rafael was raised and educated in Puerto Rico.  After he completed high school, he moved to the United States in the early 1960’s.  When he arrived, Rafael soon met his sweetheart, Candida B. Torres, and the couple married in April of 1963 in Malden. The couple spent 15 in marriage together until Candida’s passing in March of 1979 at the age of 35.  Rafael worked for many years as a laborer in the construction business until a disability forced him into an early retirement.   Rafael was an avid fisherman and game hunter.  He also enjoyed painting and playing dominos as well as playing guitar.  Rafael lived in Moreno Valley, CA with his son but was a former long-time resident of both Chelsea and Everett.

     Rafael is survived by his children, Candida Torres of Melrose, Rafael Torres Jr. of Stoneham, and Angel N. Torres of Moreno Valley, CA, his mother, Carmine Torres, his sisters, Anna Rosado of Chelsea, Lydia Torres and Anjelica Sanches, both of Puerto Rico, and Isabelle DeJesus of New Jersey, and his grandchildren, Blaire Scott Torres, Angelika C. Torres, and Mercedes Torres-Cherry.

In addition to his wife and father, Rafael was preceded in death by his brothers, Benjamin, Jose Torres, and Miguel Torres.

     Visitation will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 from 4 to 7 PM.  A funeral service will immediately follow at 7 PM. Rev. David Aponte, Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Chelsea will be officiating. 

     Burial will take place on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at 10:30 AM in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.  Friends and relatives are invited to meet at the funeral home to form a procession at 10 AM.
