Robert Henry Vining
Robert Henry Vining, 78,
longtime resident of Malden, died Saturday, October 09, 2004 at Lemmuel Shattuck Hospital
in Boston. Robert was
born and raised in Everett, attending the Everett School Systems.
Like many of his day, he left high school to enlist in the
service, joining the US Navy to fight in WWII.
He earned the Purple
Heart in action when his gunboat, the USS PC 1255 was destroyed by
the Japanese. He also
served aboard the USS Gospen until his discharge in 1946, having
attained the rank of Seaman 2nd Class.
Upon returning from the war, he immediatedly married
his sweetheart, Catherine Keddy, and the two would share the next
56 years together raising their eight children.
He truly was a family man, and enjoyed sports.
Robert was also a member of the VFW Post 603 in Malden.
He is survived by his wife Catherine (Keddy) Vining, his
children, Linda L.
Strum of NH, Robert H.
Vining Jr. of NH, Margaret K. Soldano of Everett, Bruce W. Vining
of Boxford, Dorothy H. Kirwan of
Melrose, Miriann K. Brander of Billerica, Donna R. Blundell of
Malden, and Joanne L. Vining of Malden, his brother William Vining
of Malden, his sister, Frances
Nolan of Revere, as well as 21grandchildren
and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis
E. and Elizabeth M. (Denny) Vining.
Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home on
Monday, October 11th, from
2-4 PM and 7-9 PM
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at
10:00 A.M. at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home. Pastor Paul McPheeters
of the Forestdale Community Church will be officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
