Thomas James Walsh

 

     Thomas J. Walsh, of Malden, died Saturday, November 17, 2007 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, he was 62.  Born on July 22, 1945 in Malden, he was the son of the late Frederick and Mary (Horgan) Walsh.  Thomas was raised and educated in Malden and was graduate of Malden High School with the Class of 1963.  After high school, Thomas enlisted in the U.S. Air Force to help fight for our country during Vietnam.  His service began in Boston on August 19, 1963 and he served until being honorably discharged as an Airman, 1st Class on April 13, 1967. Thomas went to work for the Boston Gas Co. in 1969.  He worked for over 30 years, even through the company change over to Keyspan, until his retirement on January 1, 2001.  Thomas was extremely active in various charities around Malden as well as the state of Massachusetts. Over his many years of service, he played an intricate part in the raising much needed funds for a wide variety of organizations. In addition to his charity works, he was an active of member of both the Irish-American Club of Malden and the Eagles of Malden. 

     Thomas is survived by his children, Carrie and her husband, Gregory Deterding of Saugus and Michael Walsh and his wife, Kelly of Melrose, his brother, Frederick Walsh and his wife, Virginia Walsh of Vernon, CT, his sister, Mary A. and her husband, David Penny, of Tewksbury, his granddaughters, Taylor, Julia, and Emily Deterding, all of Saugus, and four nephews and one niece.

Visitation will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 from 3 to 7 PM.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Mon. Nov. 26th at 10 AM in the Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Thomas’ memory may be made to the Children's Hospital Trust, One Autumn Street #731, Boston, MA 02215-5301.
