Ordis W. Whitmore

Ordis W. Whitmore,  71, died Thursday, January 6, 2005 at the VA Hospital of West Roxbury in Boston, MA. Ordis was born and educated in Nashville, AK. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950 serving during the Korean War. When he was discharged he settled in the Boston area and was employed as a chef for several area restaurants including several years at the Union Oyster House in Boston and also as chef at the Faculty Club of Harvard University. He has been a resident of Malden for the past twelve years and had resided for several years in Allston.  He was a member of the American Legion Post # 19 of Somerville and Past Grand Director of the Middlesex 40/8.  He has also done volunteer work at the Jamaica Plain Veterans Hospital for a number of years and was well known to the staff and other volunteers. 

He is survived by his daughter, Lola A. Conti of Malden, his son, Robert L. Spicer of Brockton, his son, John C. Spicer of Malden, his sister, Arlene Harrison  of Boston, his brother, Rufus Whitmore of AK, his sister in-law, Louise Whitmore of Boston, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, M. (Rattigan) Whitmore his brother Joseph Whitmore, his sister Nellie Whitmore, and his brother Alfred Whitmore.

He was born June 28, 1933 in Nashville, Arkansas the son of the late Ollie and Florence (Wisson) Whitmore.     

Visitation will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street Malden, MA on Sunday Jan 10th from 4-7 PM

Contributions in his memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association / Mass Chapter, 330   Congress St.   Suite 5 / 5 Floor, Boston MA 02210 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 10, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. in the Weir MacCuish Funeral Home. with Rev. David Meskell officiating.  Burial will be in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
