Annie S. Willard

 

Loving Mother, Volunteer, Merrymeeting Lake Resident

        Annie (Strom) Willard, 89, of Malden, MA, and Merrymeeting Lake, New Durham, NH, died following a lengthy illness at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, Melrose, MA, on Thursday, February 8, 2007.

        Born on June 23, 1917, in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of Florence and Harold Strom. She was raised and educated in Hyde Park, where she was graduated in 1935 from Hyde Park High School. She married Richard H. Willard, Division Head for the Boston Edison Company, Everett, MA, on September 24, 1937. Mrs. Willard worked at the First National Store in Woburn, Jordan Marsh Company in Cambridge, and Kyanize Paint Company in Everett. She was a member of the Malden High School Band Parents Association and the Order of the Eastern Star.

        Mrs. Willard was a devoted mother to Marilyn A. Willard of Malden, MA, and Margaret A. (Willard) Matthews and her husband John of New Durham, NH; and grandmother of two: Richard J. Matthews of Londonderry, NH, and Annette L. Matthews of New Durham, NH.

        She will also be missed by her sister, Adra M. Strom, of Fort Myers, FL, and by her beloved grand dogs: Ben G, Charlotte, Caroline, Peanette, and Cha Cha. She was predeceased by her brother, William A. P. Strom, of Hyde Park, MA.

        Annie has spent her summers at Merrymeeting Lake in New Durham, NH, since 1950, and winter vacations in Fort Myers, Florida, since 1978. Since her retirement in 1982, she enjoyed spending time with her family and volunteering many hours for the Merrymeeting Lake Association and for the Malden Education Association.

        In accordance with Mrs. Willard’s wishes and those of her family, arrangements will be private.
