                                                        ELAINE L. WIXON

 

                                                   MASSASOIT DESCENDANT

Elaine L. Wixon of Taunton, known as White Dove to her Wampanoag Indian  family, died suddenly Saturday at home, she was 45. Elaine was born in Worcester, MA  to  an Italian mother and an American Indian  father.

Ms Wixon resided in Malden nearly her entire life and  attended public schools there. She recently moved to Taunton.

Ms Wixon was a 12th generation descendant of  Chief  Massasoit,  who befriended the Pilgrims  when they first settled in New England,  as well as Chief Chicataubut of the Massachuset tribe.

She was the granddaughter of Chief Red Shell (Clarence Wixon Sr.), who  played a key role in the reorganization of the Wampanoag Tribe in the 1920s, and was niece of Chief Red Blanket (Clarence Wixon Jr.), one of the region's most respected chiefs.

Ms Wixon was the daughter of Clinton Neakeahamuck  Wixon (Lightening Foot) of Taunton and the late Barbara Wixon (Ciampa), formerly of Malden.

She is survived by her loving sister Josephine A. Wixon of Malden; two
daughters, Carrie A. Wixon  of  Lynn and Angela V. Wixon  of Buffalo, NY, one son  Mario J.  Wixon of  Malden , three  grandchildren, Angela Kilpatrick of Lynn, Edwin Wixon of NY and Mateo Colon of Malden  and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 9 AM. Visiting hours will be on Monday evening from  7-9  PM at the Weir-Mac Cuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden.

Interment in  Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, MA
