Charlotte Sherman Wood
Charlotte S. (Driscoll) Wood of Malden died Wednesday, May 2,
2007 at the Changing Seasons Healthcare Nursing Home in Everett,
she was 89. Born on February 27, 1918 in Malden, she was the
daughter of the late John F. and Charlotte E. (Goldsmith)
Driscoll. Charlotte was born in Malden but moved with her
family to the Newtonville section of Newton as a little girl.
She was educated in Newton and was a graduate of Newtonville
High School with the Class of 1938. After high school,
Charlotte worked briefly with the Raytheon Corp. She married
her sweetheart, Russell W. Wood, in 1944 and the couple then
moved to Waltham. After their first child was born, Charlotte
left her position in Raytheon. The couple then moved to Malden
to settle and raise their family. Charlotte and Russell spent
over 45 years in marriage together, raising and caring for their
family, until Russell’s passing in 1989. Charlotte was a past
member of the Boston Santha and was a long-time volunteer at the
New England Memorial Regional Hospital. Charlotte was also a
current member of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and
the former Centre United Methodist Church. Charlotte has been a
resident of Malden for the past 62 years
Charlotte is survived by her children, Jane Martel of Peabody,
Lee Knight of Malden, Robert A. Wood and his wife, Nancy of
Plaistow, NH, and David Wood and his wife, Patricia of Malden,
her grandchildren, Robert Wood, Jr. and his wife, Jessica of
Nahant, Sarah and her husband Christopher Leavitt of Bennington,
NH, Alisa and her husband, David Place of Douglas, MA, John Wood
of Plaistow, NH, David Anthony Wood, Michael R. Wood, and Toni
J. Wood, all of Malden, and her great-grandchildren, Morgan,
Jeremy, David, and Brandon.
In addition to her parents and husband, Charlotte was preceded
in death by her sister, Marjorie Adams, and her son-in-laws,
Thomas Martel and Richard L. Knight.
Funeral services will be held in the Good Shepherd United
Methodist Church, 577 Salem Street, Malden on Monday, May 7,
2007 at 12 Noon. Rev. Ruth R. Oduor, Pastor of the Good
Shepherd United Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial
will immediately follow in the Puritan Lawn Memorial Park,
Peabody.
Visitation
will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144
Salem Street, Malden on Sunday, May 6, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to
9 PM.
