                            David Bryant Wood  II

David B. Wood was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on August 6, 1920. He departed this life on July 16th, 2006. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Irene and David B. Wood, Sr. and two brothers, Stanley and Neal Wood.

At eleven years of age, Dave came to Boston to live with his father. He graduated from the Boston Public Schools. Shortly after this, Dave went into the service. He was a World War 11  Army Veteran, and was honorably discharged.

Upon completion of his military service, Dave returned to Boston where he met and married the lovely Alyce Snowden Desmond. They shared 50 years of married life before Al’s passing in 1999.

Dave was an ambitious, resourceful, and determined individual, who never lost sight of his dreams. While he spent many years working for others, he ultimately went on to study at Wentworth Institute and to open his own business. Having successfully fulfilled this dream, he went on to work and retire from the Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning Unit of the Federal Government’s Brighton Marine Hospital.

Grandpa Dave, as he was fondly called by his grandchildren, was an avid bowler, lover of music of all types, including classical, country and modern jazz. And he could, on occasion, be found in the living room teaching him self to play jazz guitar.

After retirement, Dave suffered a mild stroke. This, however, did not deter him from his love of horses. He would routinely travel to Rockingham Racetrack in New Hampshire, or to Suffolk Downs in Revere to astutely plan out his strategy for placing his daily twenty dollars in bets. Truth be told, if Dave simply asked his friends to cover the loans he made to them on “sure things,” Dave could have retired a second time.

Dave was loved and will be forever remembered by his loving family of more than sixteen grand and great-grand children

He is survived by his sons and daughters, Clara  M. Stepherson of Medford, Harold T. Desmond  of Malden, Natalie L. Desmond  of Washington, DC, Kenneth V. Desmond  of Winchester, Dr. Charles F. Desmond of Danvers.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Alyce P. (Snowden) Wood, his children Wesley  P. Desmond, his daughter’s Grace  P. Harris, Marion  F. Haygood, Eleanor  L. Desmond & Elaine  M. Desmond.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the “Emmanuel Baptist Church Building Fund”.

Visitation will be held at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 20 Hillside Ave., Malden on Wednesday July 19th.  from 11AM- 1 PM  with a funeral service starting at  1 PM. Burial will be in the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
