Alfred A. Young
Alfred
A. Young, 87, a retired postman for
US Post Office, where he worked for years,
died Saturday, August 24, 2002 at his home in Medford, Massachusetts.
Al was born in Woburn and educated in Woburn and Stoneham schools graduating
from Stoneham High School with the Class of "32". He was employed at
the Boston Navy Yard as a boiler maker prior to WWII.
He was drafted into the US Army where he served in the European Theatre.
When he was discharged he became a Postman for the US Post Office with routes in
Medford And Boston retiring in 1975. Al
has bee a resident of Malden for over fifty years having previously resided in
Stoneham and Woburn. He served as the Commissioner of Malden's Veteran's Services
Malden for over seven years under Mayor James Conway, and
served as the mayor's Vice Chairman for the Council on Aging.
He also ran for Mayor of Malden in 1983. He
was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, a member and Past Commander of
American Legion Post # 69, as well as a past Finance Chairman of the
Club. He was also a member of
Malden VFW Post 639 of Malden. Mr.
Young had resided in
Malden for over 50 yrs.
He
is survived by his son Alfred D. and
his wife Irene M. Young of Medford, his daughter, Sandra
and her husband Donald V. Dortona of Malden, 9 grandchildren
and 12 great grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, his parents Charles and
Mary (Shea) Young, and his brothers, Charles F. Young formerly of
Waltham, and Edward T. Young, formerly of Florida.
Visitation
will be held at Weir MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden, on Monday,
August 26th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM
Funeral
services will be held Tuesday, August 27th at Sacred Hearts Church at 11:00 AM,
procession will form at the funeral home at 10:00 AM.
Rev. Daniel J. Hickey, Pastor of Sacred Hearts Church will be
officiating. Burial will be in the
Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden.
