Bertha Louise Young

    

     Bertha L. (Brown) Young died Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Aberjona Nursing Center in Winchester, she was 82.  Born on December 30, 1925 in Revere, she was the daughter of the late William and Jessie (Dennison) Brown.  Bertha was educated in the Revere school system.  After high school, Bertha went to work for the Aetna Insurance Company as a secretary.  She later met and married her sweetheart, Arthur D. Young. The couple were married on October 11, 1953 in Revere and later settled in Malden to raise their two daughters, Phyllis and Nancy.  Bertha and Arthur spent over 54 years in marriage together until Arthur’s passing in April of this year.  In addition to Aetna Insurance Co., Bertha also worked for Spadafora Catering of Malden for many years. She enjoyed her summers in Limerick, ME with her family, relatives, and extended family. Her most enjoyable times were with her family and at their large gatherings.  Bertha also enjoyed her weekly luncheons on Wednesdays with her husband, Arthur, her daughter, Phyllis and son-in-law, Dan.  Bertha was also a longtime member of the Maplewood Baptist Church in Malden Square. 

     Bertha is survived by her daughters, Phyllis M. Burke and her husband, Daniel of Melrose and Nancy L. Bergh and her husband, Jack of Middleton, her grandchildren, Daniel, David, and Katie Burke, all of Melrose, and Hannah Bergh of Middleton.  Bertha also leaves many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Bertha was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary E. Kennedy and Evelyn Jones.

     Funeral services will be held in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 10AM.  Rev. Gary L. McClenthen, Pastor of the Maplewood Baptist Church will be officiating.  Burial will follow in the Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.

Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Friday, July 11, 2008 from 4 to 8 PM.
