Robert L. Zagarella

     Robert L. Zagarella of Malden died Sunday, May 27, 2007 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, he was 74.  Born on September 18, 1932 in East Boston, Bob was the son of the late Rocco and Lena (Novella) Zagarella.  He was raised and educated in East Boston.  On January 20, 1953, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army to help his country fight during the Korean War.  When he was discharged on December 30, 1954 in camp Kilmer, NJ, Bob had attained the rank of Corporal and was honored with the National Defense Service Medal.  On January 11, 1954, Bob married his sweetheart, Frances J. Malcolm.  Bob and Frances started their lives together living in Everett before eventually moving to Malden in 1970.  Bob and Frances spent over 53 years of marriage together, raising and caring for their family.  Bob began working for ECA in Cambridge in the early 1960’s.  He worked as a wire technician making wire panels that surrounded the burners in submarines and ships owned by the government.   He worked for ECA for 26 years, until going to work the Whitmore Co. in Revere.  He worked continued his dedication to wiring with Whitmore until he retired in 2005 after working 16 years for the company.  

     Bob is survived by his wife, Frances J. Zagarella, his children, Marion A. and her husband, James Buonopane of Billerica, Ann Marie Carey of Malden, Robert A. Zagarella of Malden, Lena J. Zagarella of Lynn, David F. Zagarella and his wife, Lori of Everett, John K. Zagarella of Malden, and Richard P. Zagarella of Malden, his sister, Frances Sorrento of Everett, 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by five siblings.

     A funeral service for Bob will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church, 297 Main Street, Malden at 10 AM.  Fr. Daniel J. Hickey, Pastor of Sacred Hearts Church will be celebrating the Mass.  Burial will immediately follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 from 5 to 9 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham MA 01701.
