Caffarella
Robert L. Caffarella Sr., died Thursday evening, October 22, 2009 at his home
in Medford surrounded by his family, he was 95. Bob was the son of the late
Charles & Grace (Barbrick) Caffarella. He was educated in the Malden Schools
and was a graduate of Malden High School Class of 1932. During high school Bob
excelled in basketball playing for the Malden Rockets team. Bob later joined
the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves during 1942 – 1945. Mr. Caffarella was a lifelong
resident of Malden, but was living in Medford for the last fourteen years.
Bob
later worked as a sheet metal worker for the Charlestown Navy Yard, building
ships for the next thirty years. He would meet and later marry the love of his
life, Mary A. Foley. The couple married and remained in Malden and started a
family, raising two daughters and one son. Bob’s wife Mary later passed away
on May 26, 2004, the couple had been married for sixty-seven years.
In
his spare time Bob enjoyed working in his garden and feeding the wild birds and
taking care of the house. He enjoyed his time with his children, grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the
Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and Boston Celtics.
Robert was a proud mason with the Mt. Vernon Lodge AF & AM in Malden, for the
last 52 years. He was a member of the Aleppo Shriners of Wilmington for many
years. He was also a thirty-six year member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish
Rite, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, Lexington, MA.
He is
survived by his two daughter’s Lorraine A. Grandolfi and her husband George
of Medford, Dorothy Sargent and her husband David of Kensington, NH, his
cherished grandchildren George, Robert, Dennis, Susan, Kenneth, Timothy,
Jacqueline. His great-grandchildren, Megan, Michael, Kady, Jessica, Luis, Ryan,
Sydney, Nicholas, Angela, Alex, and Jared.
He
was preceded in death by his wife Mary A. (Foley) Caffarella, his son Robert
L. Caffarella, his brother Charles & William Caffarella, his sister’s Ruth
Rodenhiser, Thelma McClellan, and Dorothy Caffarella.
In
keeping with Robert’s wishes, visiting hours have been omitted. Contributions
in his memory may be made to the VNA of Middlesex-East & Visiting Nurse Hospice,
607 North Ave. Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery,
