John A. Carusone
John A. Carusone, 82, died suddenly, Wednesday, August 18, 2004
at his home in Medford, MA. John was born and educated in East
Boston and after his schooling he worked for the Charlestown
Navy Yard for two and a half years as a drop hammer operator,
before he was inducted into the US Army. After the war he worked
for the Boston Navel Ship Yard for twenty-five years as a drop
forger, retiring in 1971. John was a parishioner at Sacred
Hearts Church in Malden and was a member of the Loyal Order of
the Moose of Malden and a former member of the French Club in
Everett. John loved playing cards, reading and doing crossword
puzzles. He loved spending time with his grandson Loren. John's
daughters always remember their father to be a hard worker and
always having two jobs. One of his jobs was helping his sister
at the arcade, at Salem Willows and working at the bowling alley
on Broadway, in Malden. John had lived in Medford for the last
twenty-one years and was formerly from Malden for fifty-eight
years. He is survived by his daughter Janice M. Carusone of
Newton and her partner Carol Wein, his daughter, Gail M.
Carusone of Malden, his grandson Loren Carusone-Wein of Newton,
his sister Josephine Marsala of CA, and his niece Lynn Stead of
Stoneham and her husband Donald Stead. He was preceded in death
by his wife Dorothy E. (Seiert) Carusone, his father Giovanni
Carusone, his mother Josephine (Arena) Carusone, his brother's
Edward DeVingo and George Carusone, his sister's Emma Carusone,
Grace Rizzo, Lillian Searle, Antoninette Carusone, and Mary
Mambucca.
He was born December 17, 1921 in Boston, MA the son of the late
Giovanni and Josephine (Arena) Carusone. He served in the US
Army during World War II having attained the rank of Staff
Sergeant. He enlisted on November 26, 1943 at Boston, MA and was
discharged on February 18, 1946 at Ft. Devens, MA He served as a
carpenter and heavy construction worker, building shipping docks
and bridges for the war effect.
Visitation will be held at Weir-MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem
St. ,Malden on Thursday, from 4-8 PM. Contributions in John's
memory maybe made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen
Street, Framingham MA 01701. Funeral from the Weir-Mac Cuish
Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, on Friday,
August 20th at 10AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in
Sacred Hearts Church, 297 Main St., Malden at 11AM. Interment to
follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
