Edward John Casey

"Windy"

     Edward J. “Windy” Casey died on Thursday morning March 25, 2010 in the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill after a long illness, he was 76.  Ed was born in Boston on October 5, 1933, the son of the late John F. & Christina (Becker) Casey.  Mr. Casey was educated in the Boston school system and was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School Class of 1951.                  

     In 1952, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.   He served for three years and was discharged in the fall of 1955 as a Sergeant and was released to the United States Army Reserve until his discharge in August of 1960.  He received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, as well as the Good Conduct Medal.

     On September 10, 1955, Ed married the love of his life Shirley N. Bouchard.  They were married in the Immaculate Conception Church in Malden and settled in the city and raised a family. The couple was married for over fifty–four years before Ed’s passing. Ed and Shirley resided in Malden for forty-five years, they later moved to Salem, NH and then to Haverhill. Ed was a printer by trade and worked at the Oak Grove Press in Malden for twenty-three years.  He later started his own printing firm, the Casco Printing Company, and oversaw the operation for over seven years.

     In his spare time, Ed enjoyed bowling and managing the Malden Moose Club Soft Ball Team. He was longtime member of the Malden Moose, Eastside A.A., the Italian American Citizens Club, and was a former member of the Malden VFW # 639, Irish American Club and the Derry/Salem Elks in NH.  

     Mr. Casey was appointed in the early 1980’s as the Park Commissioner and later the Fire Commissioner and was a Compliance Bureau Officer appointed by the City Council of Malden.

    Mr. Casey was survived by his loving wife, Shirley N. (Bouchard) Casey, his son Kevin Casey of Haverhill and his daughter Karen M. DiBlasi of Salem, NH. He was the cherished grandfather of Erin & Rachel Casey, Jessica & Julia DiBlasi. Ed was the son-in-law of Edna Bouchard of Ayer.

He was the loving brother of the late John Casey formerly of Braintree and James Casey of Westfield and his father in law Herman Bouchard.

Visiting hours for friends and relatives will be held in the Weir - MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden on Saturday from 3:30 – 6:30 PM. followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 6:30 PM.
