Michael
Edward Chapman

Michael E. Chapman of Malden died Sunday, January 18, 2009 at
his home, he was 57. Born in Cambridge on December 18, 1951, he
was the son of Alice (McManus) Chapman and the late Edward G.
Chapman. At a young age, Mike discovered music and the piano.
Mike was a gifted pianist who composed music at the age of 5,
before he could even read music. In addition to attending
Lincoln Elementary School in Malden as well as Charles River
Academy in Cambridge, Mike studied music for well over 14 years
at schools such as the New England Conservatory of Music, the
Boston Community Music Center, and the Malden School of Music.
He had written over 25 original compositions, having 5 copywritten, and was honored with recognition by Leonard
Bernstein of the New York Philharmonic.
Mike’s passion for music and entertaining continued throughout
his life. On June 5, 1969, he enlisted into the U.S. Army to
help fight for our country during the Vietnam War. He joined
the Army’s TASCOM Showcase which allowed him to travel all over
Europe and Vietnam playing piano for audiences. After being
awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam
Service Medal, Mike was honorably discharged on July 27, 1971 in
Vietnam and then immediately re-enlisted for active duty until
he was once again discharged on March 8, 1976.
After his service time was complete, Mike expanded his passion
for entertaining when he moved to California and joined the
Screen Actor’s Guild. He had several “extra” roles in featured
films such as, “Coming Home” and “Hair.” He also enjoyed
success on the stage, having roles in theater productions such
as, “the King and I,” and “One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”
After some time, Mike eventually matriculated back to his home
in Malden. He stayed quiet in regards to his acting and music.
He was a member of the Boston Chapter of the Screen Actor’s
Guild and had an extra role in the Disney movie filmed in
Boston, “The Game Plan.” Mike was currently employed with the
Green Cab Co. of Somerville.
In addition to
his mother, Michael is survived by his four brothers, Gerald F.,
Paul K., David J., and Thoms J. Chapman, all of Malden.
A funeral service for Michael will be held in the Weir-MacCuish
Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Friday,
January, 23, 2009 at 10 AM. Friends and relatives are invited
to gather at the funeral home on Friday at 9 AM. Burial will
follow the service in the forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. Michael
will be laid to rest in the cemetery’s Veteran’s section and be
given proper military honors by the United States Army.
