Edith Frances Choate
Edith
F. Choate, passed away early Saturday morning, May 30, 2009 at her home in
Malden, she was 88. Edith was born in Woburn, MA on May 11, 1921 the daughter
of the late Harry B. & Lillian T. (Bell) Choate. As a young girl her family
moved often while her father worked as a lineman for the power company.
Edith
was employed as a candy maker for the Necco Candy Company of Cambridge. She
worked there for many years and retired in the 1960’s. She was a longtime
member of the former Centre United Methodist Church in Malden. She was very
active member with the ladies circle at the church and taught Sunday school to
the young children. She enjoyed traveling and site seeing. She also enjoyed her
bus tour across the county with her good friend Helen Connelly. Edith had been a
resident of Malden for well over sixty years.
She is survived by her
brother Fred A. Choate of Tyngsboro, and her many nieces and nephews and grand
nieces and grand nephews.
She was
preceded in death by her father Harry B. Choate, her mother Lillian T. (Bell)
Choate, her brother Charles M. Choate formerly of Florida, and her sister Norma
G. Lever formerly of Malden.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Weir
–Mac Cuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden. The Rev. Ruth R.
Oduor of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial
will follow in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
Visitation will be held at the
funeral home on Tuesday, 1 hour prior to her funeral service from 10- 11 AM.
