Maxine M. DeCristofaro
1921 - 2019
Maxine M. DeCristofaro, a longtime resident of
Medford, passed away on Friday, November 15, in Wakefield at the
age of 98. Maxine was born in Maine in 1921, the daughter of
Ernest and Iva Swett. After spending much of her childhood in
Maine, she moved to the Boston area at the age of 15. In 1943,
she married her sweetheart, Marzio DeCristofaro, and the two
settled down in Medford to raise their family. They shared
almost 35 years of marriage together until Marzio's passing in
Maxine started her career at the Howard Johnson’s in Medford,
was hostess at the Woodland Golf Club in Newton, and waitressed
at the Continental, the Red Coach Grill and Augustine’s.
Maxine was a loyal Boston Red Sox fan hardly ever missing a
game. She enjoyed playing BINGO, crocheting, watching Wheel of
Fortune and Jeopardy. She especially loved hearing about her
great grandchildren’s adventures. Her family was her pride and
She is survived by her son Charles DeCristofaro and partner
Laneta Newman of SC, her
sisters Gloria Rousay of FL and Lorraine Wright of CT, her
grandchildren, Kim Magill and husband Ken, Donna Beams and
husband Frank, Debra DeCristofaro, and James Rowe and wife
Alexis, as well as 8 great- grandchildren.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Marzio, her daughter
Jean Lorna Rowe, and her siblings, Jennings Swett, Vinal Swett,
Graden Swett, Albina Swett, Lawrence Swett, Lionel Swett,
Bertram Swett, Jean Luther, Etta Snyder, and Harris Swett.
A memorial service for Maxine will be held on Saturday, November
30th, at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem
St, Malden, at 11 AM, with visitation beginning at 9 AM.
