Antonio
DeSimone

Antonio DeSimone of Stoneham, formerly of Medford, died in his
home on September 10, 2010, he was 89. Born on May 10, 1921 in
Boston, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Carmela (Sandomango)
DeSimone. When he was two years old, Antonio and his family
moved to Malden where he was raised and educated. Antonio
married his sweetheart, Josephine Rosato, on April 12, 1942 in
St. Leonard’s Church in Boston. The couple settled briefly in
Boston before Antonio was called to serve in the U.S. Army
Aircorp to help fight for our country during World War II. He
served bravely in Company E 341st Infantry Regiment.
Upon his honorable discharge on January 20, 1946 Antonio had
attained the rank of Technician 5. Antonio earned the European
African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Asiatic
Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the American Theater Campaign
Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal as well as the Victory Medal.
Upon his return home, Antonio and Josephine lived in Boston’s
North End before settling into their Medford home in 1957.
Antonio worked for New England Bedding in Medford for over 25
years. The company was a manufacturer of all types of furniture
and Antonio worked diligently as an upholsterer. A master of
his craft, Antonio also upholstered and repaired many custom
pieces of furniture on his own. When the company closed,
Antonio began working for Coffman Auto Parks, managing parking
lots until he finally retired in 1988. Antonio was an active
member of the V.F.W. of Malden, Post #639, the Malden American
Legion, Post #69, and the Italian American Citizens Club of
Malden.
Antonio is survived by his wife, Josephine DeSimone of Stoneham,
his son, Pasquale DeSimone and his wife, Lois of Ayer, MA, his
daughter, Bernadette Verdi and her husband, Andrew of Newport
Richey, FL, his grandchildren, Andrew Verdi, Antonio DeSimone,
Deanne White, Robert Verdi, and Joseph DeSimone, and his
great-grandchildren, Nicholas Verdi, Pasquale DeSimone,
Elizabeth White, and Aden DeSimone.
In addition to his parents, Antonio was preceded in death by his
five siblings, Angelo DeSimone, Catherine Memmolo, and Silvio,
John, and Ernest DeSimone.
Funeral will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral
Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden on Wednesday, September 15, 2010
at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts
Church, 297 Main Street, Malden at 10 AM. Burial will follow in
the Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
Visitation will be
held in the funeral home on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from 4
to 8 PM.
