Richard
"Dick" Gordon Smith

Richard Gordon
Smith, 69, of Revere, formerly of Malden and Winthrop, died
suddenly on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Melrose-Wakefield
Hospital.
He was born in
1941 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Gordon and Edith
(Hibbard) Smith. Dick was raised in Winthrop. He graduated
from Winthrop High with the class of 1960. After high school he
attended Salem State College. In 1966, Dick and Claudette
Paradis were married in Biddeford, Maine. They spent a few
years in Winthrop before settling down in Malden to raise their
family. For the last 6 years, he and Claudette had resided in
Revere. For many years, Dick worked at the Pitney Bowes
company. He later went to work for the city of Malden as a
crossing guard. He worked the corner of Salem and Mt. Vernon
for a few years and then took over the corner of Salem and
Laurel near the Mystic Valley Charter School. He worked for the
city for over 15 years. On weekends he also worked part time as
a hotel clerk at the Colonial Traveler.
Dick enjoyed
playing golf, horseshoes, and pool. He also enjoyed going
fishing. He was a long time member of the East Side Athletic
Club, and was also a member of the Sharon Street Athletic Club.
Dick had a great attention to detail, and was very particular
about the work that he did, whether it was with carpentry and
handyman jobs, or drafting a letter, he always had to make sure
everything was done right.
He is survived
by his wife Claudette, his sons Randy J. Smith and
wife Renee of Malden, and Timothy A. Smith of Salem, and
his step-grandchildren, Timothy and Antonio.
Dick was
preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Edith (Hibbard)
