Elizabeth M. “Betty” Dionne

1938 - 2019


Elizabeth M. “Betty” (Babin) Dionne, a lifelong resident of Malden, passed away on Friday, June 28,  after a brief illness.  Betty was born in Malden in 1938, the daughter of Gorden and Marie Babin.  She was raised and educated in Malden.   Soon after completing her education, she married her sweetheart, Joseph Lombardi.   They settled down together in Malden to raise their family. They spent many wonderful years together until Joe’s untimely passing in 1984.  Betty later found love and companionship with Ernest T. Dionne, and the two were married until Ernest passed in 2010. 

Betty was an avid baseball fan and loved to watch the Red Sox. She also had enjoyed knitting and crocheting,  and would make her family doilies, mittens and the occasional scarf.  She was also and active volunteer of the Diplomats Drum and Bugle Corps when her children marched.

She is survived by her children Michelle J. Lombardi of Malden,  Donna M. Lombardi  and companion Bryan Straccia of Malden, Dennis J. Lombardi and wife April of  Malden, and Joseph P. Lombardi Jr and wife Nancy of Hanover, her sister Lois Barnes of Maine, her grandchildren who lovingly called her “Nana Choo Choo” James, Dennis, Ashley and husband Mario, Michael, Derrick, Monica, Emily, Julianne, Casey, Michael, Jamie, and Ryan, and her great grandson Giovanni

Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph P. Lombardi Sr, her second husband Ernest T. Dionne, her son Gordon A. Lombardi, her brother Richard Babin, and her sister, Dianne Shortsleeves.

Funeral sevices will be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden, on Monday ,July 1st, at 10 AM.  Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, June 30th, from 4- 8 PM.
