George R. Fowler, a lifelong
resident of Malden, passed away on Thursday, November 14th,
after a lengthy illness. George was born in Malden in 1924, the
son of Alton and Marion Fowler. He was raised in Malden, and
after completing his education he enlisted in the National
Guard. Over the years, George often worked 2 jobs, he was a
cook at the Miss Malden Diner and at Steves Diner, he was a
machinist at Boston-Rockport Machine, drove for the Malden Cab
Company, and was a Security Guard in Wakefield. Outside of
work, he enjoyed dancing and visiting Suffolk Downs, and was
very particular about his car, spending hours cleaning and
In 1956, George married his
sweetheart, Shirley O’Brien in New Hampshire. The two settled
down together in Malden to raise their family. They shared over
63 years of marriage together.
He is survived by his wife
Shirley, and his grandson Fredrick G. Hutchins.
George was preceded in death
by his daughter, Marion D. Fowler, and his brothers, Kenneth
Fowler and Al Fowler.
Visitation for George will
be held at the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem
St, Malden on Wed, Nov 20th, from 6-8 PM.
Family and friends are
invited to meet at the funeral home on Thursday, Nov 21st,
at 10 AM for an 11 AM graveside service in Puritan Lawn
