Mildred J. "Millie" Gallant

 

Mildred Joan Gallant, 74, a   longtime resident of Malden,  died Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Wingate Nursing Home in Reading, Massachusetts.    She was born August 25, 1937 in Boston, Massachusetts the daughter of John and Mary  (Ducey) McCue. Millie was raised in East Boston,  and graduated from East Boston High with the Class of 1955.  After high school she took employment with the John Hancock Insurance Company, where she performed clerical duties.  She worked there until 1959 when she married Martin F. Gallant.  Martin was a full time member of the US Army, and while married to him they lived in South Carolina, Georgia, The Panama Canal Zone, and Alaska.  Upon his retirement from the service the family settled down in Malden.  After their marriage ended, Mildred went to work for the IRS in their Criminal Investigation Department.  She had reached a clerical supervisor level by the time she retired. Mildred enjoyed dining out and shopping, and she liked to play cards, especially whist.  In addition, she was an avid sports fan, and would faithfully attend her grandchildren’s sporting events, as well as always watching the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots.       

She is survived by her children, Patricia Romano and husband Anthony of Groveland, Debra Pitts and partner John Everton of Billerica, Karen Gallant and partner Frank Cavicchio of Malden, and Peter Gallant of Saugus,  9  grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mildred was preceded in death by her 3 brothers Raymond McCue, Thomas McCue and  John McCue, and her 2 sisters Dorothy  Flynn and Mary  Kimmerle

Funeral  services will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden, on Tuesday, Sept 6th, at 9:00AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in  Sacred Hearts Church, 297 Main Street,  Malden, at 10AM.  Interment to follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
