Carmela Elizabeth Gianelly

Carmela Elizabeth Gianelly, 98, a  longtime resident of Malden, died Monday, September 26, 2011 at the Grace House in Windham, New Hampshire.    She was born August 16, 1913 in Boston, Massachusetts the daughter of Peter and Anna (Prato) Gianino. Carmella was raised and educated in the West End of Boston.  When she completed school she became a stitcher in the Garment District in Boston where she was employed until her retirement in 1980.  In 1936, she married her sweetheart, Romeo A. Gianelli at Sacred Hearts Church in Boston's North End.  The two soon settled down in Malden to raise their family. They shared over 65 years together until Romeo's passing in 2003.  While they were both retired, they enjoyed traveling around the world together.  She was a long time dedicated member of St. Josephs Church in Malden, and she loved the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She also never lost her passion for sewing, and even after her retirement, she enjoyed making dresses for her granddaughters and fixing any clothing items that needed tending to.      

She is survived by her children, Richard J. Gianelli of Andover,  and Judith A. Connolly of VA, her brother Emanuel Gianino of Everett, as well as 2 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. 

Carmella was preceded in death by her husband Romeo, her parents Peter and Anna  Gianino, and her granddaughter, Deanna Porter.

Visitation will be at Weir - MacCuish Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden,  on Wednesday, Sept 28th,  from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM  

Funeral services will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, Malden, on Thursday,  Sept, 29th, at 8AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, St. Josephs Church, Malden, at 9AM.  Interment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. 

Donations in Carmela’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place,Memphis, TN 38105
